04Frequently Asked Questions
What is EMI?
EMI (Equated Monthly Installment) is the fixed amount you pay every month to repay a loan, covering both principal and interest, until the loan is fully paid off.
Why is more interest paid in the early months?
Interest is calculated on the outstanding balance each month. Early on, your balance is highest, so more of each EMI goes toward interest. As the balance shrinks, more goes toward principal.
Does a longer tenure reduce my EMI?
Yes, a longer tenure lowers your monthly EMI, but you'll pay significantly more total interest over the life of the loan. A shorter tenure means higher EMI but less total interest.
Can I prepay my loan to reduce interest?
Most lenders allow partial or full prepayment, which reduces your outstanding principal and therefore future interest — though some charge a prepayment penalty. Check your loan agreement.
Is this calculator accurate for Islamic (Shariah-compliant) financing?
This tool models conventional interest-based EMI. Islamic financing (Murabaha, Ijarah, Diminishing Musharakah) uses different profit-calculation structures, so actual installments may differ — check with your Islamic bank for exact figures.
